UK First debate on cameras in the House of Commons Chamber

Source: United Kingdom UK Parliament (video statements)

On this day in 1978, MPs debated allowing video cameras in the House of Commons for the first time. 📅

Although the motion didn’t succeed, it started a wider debate on how people access information about what happens in the Chamber. ℹ️

Microphones have been permanently broadcasting in the Commons since 3 April 1978. The first time they were used live was to broadcast Oral Questions to the Secretary of State for Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
