After holding a trilateral meeting with Secretary-General António Guterres, the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, and the Leader of Turkish Cypriot Community, Ersin Tatar, expressed their commitment to further talks.
Christodoulides said, “what was agreed today is that immediately after the electoral process in the occupied territories, the personal envoy of the Secretary-General will visit Cyprus. He will visit the guarantor powers, he will visit Brussels, in order to prepare the ground for the enlarged conference, which will take place – as our Secretary-General mentioned – before the end of the year, with the aim, I repeat, of resuming substantive talks from where they had been suspended.”
He said the Secretary-General’s had requested “to resume talks from where they broke off in Crans-Montana,” and added that he considers it “an obligation to do everything possible to succeed.”
