"Our partnership is stronger today than ever before." – President von der Leyen
The first-ever EU-Egypt summit took place in Brussels on 22 October 2025.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the European Council, António Costa, representing the EU together, met with Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi.
Egypt is a key strategic partner in view of its geographical location and the major stabilising role it plays in the Middle East region.
The focus of the summit was on bilateral relations and on further deepening the political and economic partnership, with the aim of fostering the parties’ shared stability, peace and prosperity.
The leaders also discussed today’s global challenges, including the situation in the Middle East, Ukraine, multilateralism, trade, migration and security.
