Watch live as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen joins Executive Vice-President Raffaele Fitto and Heads of State from the EU’s eastern Member States for a high-level conference on the protection of the EU’s borders.
In her speech, President von der Leyen addressed the impact of Russia’s invasion of #Ukraine on eastern border communities. She also presented a plan to strengthen these regions through security, defence, investment and community engagement.

– Enhancing security by mobilising resources and initiatives such as the Defence Readiness Roadmap and the Drone Defence Initiative.
– Launching #EastInvest, a major investment mechanism to attract financing to border regions, tapping into assets like renewable energy, agriculture and technology.
– Supporting local communities with flexible financial instruments, digital upskilling and cross-border initiatives to boost resilience and long-term prosperity
