Every year, the planet loses an area of tropical forest equivalent to the size of South Korea. And overall, almost one-quarter of all tropical forests are at high risk of being lost, according to a new report by UNEP.
These threatened areas provide a host of benefits: from safeguarding jobs and food security for millions of people to recycling and decontaminating freshwater. To save these forests, says UNEP, the world needs to more than triple its annual investment in forest protection.
The World Economic Forum is the International Organization for Public-Private Cooperation. It provides a global, impartial and not-for-profit platform for meaningful connection between stakeholders to establish trust, and build initiatives for cooperation and progress.
