In her 2026 State of the Union speech, President von der Leyen focuses on the key challenges and priorities facing the European Union: strengthening European security and defence, boosting competitiveness, continuing support for Ukraine, accelerating the clean and digital transition, and defending democracy, social rights and European unity in a changing and increasingly unstable world.
The State of the European Union is the European Commission’s annual moment to take stock of achievements, address today’s biggest challenges, and present the roadmap for the future of the EU across all 27 Member States.
