This week’s top stories of the week include:
00:12 – Is Europe an advantage for tech firms?:
Some of the world’s most ambitious tech companies are being built in Europe. Hélène Huby of The Exploration Company, Mati Staniszewski of ElevenLabs and Arthur Mensch of MistralAI are among the founders showing what Europe has to offer as a home for globally competitive #tech.
04:49 – Top 10 economies near gender parity:
The first Global Gender Gap Report was published 20 years ago. After two decades of data on gender parity, it’s clear the world is travelling in the right direction. Back in 2006, the average gender gap of the 97 economies that have featured in every report was 64% closed. Today it is 69% closed – a new high-water mark.
07:07 – Why research funding is a top invention:
Grant-funded #research allows scientists to follow their curiosity in the lab without the need for a commercial payout demanded by private funding. Biologist Victor Ambros and chemist Thomas Cech, along with UC Berkeley Chancellor Rich Lyons and Yale astrophysicist Priya Natarajan, explain how societies can pave the way for the treatments of tomorrow by publicly funding #science today.
