This week’s top stories of the week include:
00:12 – In-demand skills employers struggle to find:
Core practical abilities – in construction, operation and resources handling – account for almost half of #employment worldwide. But demand is running way ahead of supply, which means in many regions there’s a shortage of people with these skills. In the US, people with maker skills are doing five times as much overtime as other workers, on average.
02:07 -Why are wildfires increasing?:
Wildfires have devastated landscapes across the world this year, from France and Spain to Southeast Asia. What’s driving the fires? A combination of extreme heat, wind and dryness, exacerbated both by climate change and the failure to prepare – as Natalie Çilem of the World Economic Forum’s Global Network for Wildfire Leadership explains.
04:56 – Top 10 tourism destinations:
Every two years, the World Economic Forum ranks countries as traveller destinations – not using simple visitor numbers, but against a set of indicators showing their ‘tourism readiness’. These include the quality of roads and the number of hotel rooms to the sustainability of its tourism infrastructure and the quality of natural and cultural attractions. This year’s Travel and Tourism Development Index has a new leader. Can you guess which country it is?
