UN Chief receives Highest Civil award in Pakistan | United Nations

António Guterres, United Nations Secretary-General, receives Pakistan’s highest civil award, the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, on behalf of the United Nations, during a special ceremony in Islamabad with Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari.

The Secretary-General also accepted an honorary award from the President on behalf of the United Nations today. He also visited the National Disaster Management Authority and received a briefing on Pakistan’s disaster preparedness and resilience. He wrapped up a visit to the headquarters of the UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan, otherwise known as UNMOGIP. There, he paid tribute to the mission and to the UN peacekeepers serving around the world. This was followed by a meeting with the country team in Islamabad.

On Wednesday, the Secretary-General will be meeting with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and have further engagement in Islamabad

During his visit, Guterres also held discussions with Mohammad Ishaq Dar, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan. The Secretary-General also met with President Asif Ali Zardari, with whom he discussed regional and international issues.
