At the thirteenth session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, global leaders and housing experts reflect on the growing pressures shaping the global housing crisis and the urgent need to rethink housing as a foundation for dignity, opportunity, and sustainable development. Dr. Koldo Casla (Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing), Xenya Scanlon (UNCCD), Thembisile Simelane (Minister of Human Settlements, South Africa), and Jonathan Reckford (Habitat for Humanity International) discuss the structural inequalities, environmental pressures, rapid urbanization, and governance challenges affecting cities and communities around the world. They emphasize the importance of inclusive housing systems, stronger public leadership, and cross-sector partnerships that place communities at the center of efforts to build more equitable, resilient, and sustainable urban futures.

This afternoon, Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Mr Kenny Morolong visited Karoo Bioscience which is a SAHPRA-licensed producer and export of medical cannabis. This project is a 400M investment into the rural community. The visit is in line with Supporting growth sectors such as Big Frontier 4: Industrial Cannabis and other Advanced Agro-processing Opportunities linked to AfCFTA as identified in the Country Investment Strategy initiated by the Presidency.

KB’s customers include leading licensed importers in Australia, Portugal, Malta, Germany, the UK and Switzerland. Karoo Bioscience is proud to be almost entirely solar powered, to have 115 permanent employees and most of its employees at all levels as shareholders. The company is also in a sound financial position with no institutional debt on its books.
Karoo Bioscience is the primary employer in Vanwyksdorp and is privileged to contribute to rural economic development.

Later this year Karoo Bioscience will be inspected by European regulatory author.
