Source: European Commission (video statements)

Europe’s New Satellite Network: 330 Satellites for When the Internet Fails.

The European Commission’s President Ursula von der Leyen said it clearly: “Our security on Earth depends on our security in Space”.

When the internet goes down, IRIS², a new European satellite network designed to guarantee secure and resilient connectivity, no matter what happens to ground or undersea cables, will keep Europe connected.

330 satellites across three orbits:
– 264 in Low and Medium Earth Orbit
– 66 in a dedicated layer for defence and security users

What does this mean for you?

– Stay connected when it matters most: even when other networks fail, rescue teams will stay connected.
– Connectivity for everyone: high-speed internet for medical, educational, and other needs in remote areas.
– Jobs and opportunities: new business and quality jobs for European companies and start-ups in the space sector.
