UK The cost of clinical negligence – Public Accounts Committee

Source: United Kingdom UK Parliament (video statements)

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) hold a scrutiny session on the costs of clinical negligence.

Senior health officials are likely to be asked at the session what the Government is doing to improve its initial responses to harm and overall patient safety, and what it can do to put the costs of clinical negligence on a more sustainable path. The session is also likely to see questioning around the Government’s 11 November announcement around redundancies in the NHS, in which the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) committed to abolishing around 18,000 administrative posts, saying that this will save more than £1bn to be redirected to frontline care.

What my record 102-hour saltwater swim taught me about the ocean

Source: World Economic Forum (video statements)

"During those 102 hours, I connected with my soul, my brain, my body, to a level that I will probably never do again. And I discovered a part of myself that I couldn’t think was capable of doing what I did."
Noam Yaron swam from Corsica to just off the coast of Monaco, mainland Europe, to push himself to the limit and raise awareness about the marine environment.

Here’s what he learned about human endurance and the threats to nature posed by pollution, shipping and rising temperatures.

World Children’s Day 2025 – UN Chief message | United Nations

Source: United Nations (video statements)

Video message by António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, on World Children’s Day 2025.

"The Convention on the Rights of the Child is the most widely ratified treaty in history.

Signed 36 years ago today, it affirms a simple truth:

When we protect the youngest members of the human family, we build a better world.

But right now, children’s rights are under attack.

Poverty and emergencies are stealing education.

Climate chaos is jeopardizing futures.

And new dangers lurk in the online world.

Too many children already carry burdens far beyond their years, earning income or caring for siblings.

And famine and war have robbed thousands of the most basic right of all: The right to life.

Every child’s circumstances are unique.

But every child has the same rights, no matter who they are or where they live.

This World Children’s Day, let us listen to children. And let us amplify their voices as they stand up for their rights.

The future is defined by how we care for the next generation.

We must unite to build a safe and equal world for every child."
