On 10 March Commission President von der Leyen is opening the Nuclear Energy Summit 2026, in Paris.
The event aims to strengthen international cooperation and promote solutions for the safe and sustainable development of civil nuclear power.

Europe has diversified its energy supply and strengthened partnerships with global suppliers. Gas imports now come from a mix of pipeline and LNG sources, including Norway and the United States.
These efforts help ensure stable energy supply for Europe while reducing dependence on a single supplier.
Ambassadors from EU Delegations assembled for this year’s EU Ambassadors Conference in Brussels on 9th March 2026. Both Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as well as High Representative and Commission Vice-President Kaja Kallas delivered keynote speeches.
In the President’s speech, Europe’s evolving foreign policy took centre stage, focusing on adapting to global challenges and threats, particularly in the Middle East. She highlighted the necessity for strengthening security and defence, expanding trade and global partnerships, and asserting Europe’s independence and influence while staying true to its values and allies. She also emphasised the importance of adapting diplomatic strategies for effective global governance, urging Europe to seize opportunities to promote its interests and shape the future.

8 March 2026 — On International Women’s Day, the European Commission celebrates the power of women across Europe and beyond.
This year, we highlight:
• Challenging gender stereotypes
• Increasing women’s participation in decision-making
• Ending violence against women and girls
The power is in us — in women shaping policy, driving innovation, building communities, and leading change every day. When women thrive, Europe thrives.
The priority for the European Commission is to help bring European citizens stranded in the Gulf region safely back home. The EU Civil Protection Mechanism has already been activated by 18 countries and has helped over 1,000 EU citizens return to Europe on 10 flights organised under it. When at least 30% of seats are offered to other EU nationals, the European Commission can co-finance up to 75% of the transport costs, supporting Member States in organising flights and logistics in close cooperation with consular authorities. The EU and its Member States work together to bring its citizens home safely.

In 2025, the EU Safety Gate flagged 4,671 hazardous products, keeping millions of consumers safe across Europe.
Cosmetics (36%) were the most common, followed by toys (16%) and electrical appliances (11%).
Thanks to Safety Gate, these dangerous items were removed from online marketplaces and kept out of homes, schools, and workplaces.
The European Commission has adopted The Industrial Accelerator Act proposal, to boost manufacturing, grow businesses and create jobs in the EU, while supporting industry’s adoption of cleaner, future-ready technologies.
These will apply to selected strategic sectors such as:
• steel
• cement
• aluminium
• cars
• net-zero technologies
This will strengthen European production capacities and boost demand for European-made clean technologies and products.

On 3 March 2026, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen participated in the 2026 European Employment and Social Rights Forum.
This Forum addressed the EU’s response to the challenges many people face today, including the rising cost of living, job insecurity, and changes in the labour market. Opinion leaders, policymakers, businesses, academics and civil society came together to explore bold ideas to support Europe’s greatest strength: its people.
In her speech, President von der Leyen emphasised partnership to support Europe’s social model, stressing that economic progress should serve the people. She identified three priorities: enhancing the Single Market, investing in skills and quality jobs, and addressing housing affordability. She proposed measures to improve labour mobility and invest in skills to prepare for AI-driven changes. Quality jobs were highlighted as essential for productivity. For housing, she called for EU actions to make it more affordable. President von der Leyen concluded by urging collaboration to secure future opportunities for Europe.

Following the developments of the situation in Iran, the EU has expressed its full support to the people of Iran, and their fundamental right to protest peacefully. The EU deeply regrets the loss of life resulting from recent events in Iran. The EU urges the full respect of international law, protection of civilians and fundamental freedoms, and emphasises that only a diplomatic and negotiated solution can bring lasting peace and stability.
