On 23 June 2025, during the the EU-Canada Summit, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will hold a press conference together with António Costa, President of the European Council, and Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada.

The summit is an opportunity to enhance the EU-Canada strategic partnership and for leaders to reinforce their cooperation at different levels, from trade to economic security, energy, crisis management, and justice and home affairs, in light of the rapidly changing geopolitical and economic context.

The EU-Canada Security and Defence Partnership is expected to be agreed. Leaders will also issue a joint statement.

At the same time, the EU naval operation ASPIDES continues to protect merchant ships from Houthi attacks.
The EU calls for de-escalation in the Middle East and reaffirms that Iran cannot have a nuclear bomb and a diplomatic solution is the solution to prevent this.

Combating hate in society: How people are shaping EU policies

Imagine the EU asks you to help with combating hate in society by shaping its policies. Do you say yes?

Gemma – a lovely Italian grandma, Martin – an actor and drag performer from Slovakia, Daniel – a cargo office agent from Germany, and 147 other randomly selected EU citizens didn’t just imagine it—they lived it. Over three weekends in Brussels, they engaged in fruitful debates and discussions on how to tackle hatred in society.
The result? 21 concrete recommendations presented to the European Commission.
