On 24 September, 2025 Commission President von der Leyen gave a speech at the Climate Summit, during the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

"10 years have passed since we adopted the Paris Agreement. Since then, the world has changed. The clean transition is moving forward."
"The world can count on Europe’s climate leadership. Our Nationally Determined Contribution will range between 66.25% and 72.5%. And we are working full speed on -90% by 2040.
We are on our way to climate neutrality."

Children aged 9 to 15 are spending more than twice as much time on screens and social media, driven by algorithms designed to capture attention and foster addiction. This increases risks like cyberbullying and harmful content.

Many EU Member States are calling for a digital majority age for social media access. A panel of experts will assess the right steps at the European level, consulting parents, teachers, scientists, and young people themselves to create a safer online environment.

The EU’s comprehensive approach to migration is delivering results: illegal border crossings dropped by 38% in 2024. A new Pact on Migration and Asylum will take effect in June 2026, strengthening border controls, improving security checks, speeding up return procedures, and applying fair, transparent rules for applicants. Alongside these reforms, the EU is forging partnerships with countries of origin and transit to tackle root causes, reduce irregular departures, and create safe, legal migration pathways. A humane but firm system shaping a safer, more balanced future.
