Ukraine Recovery Conference 2026

On 25 June, Commission President von der Leyen is giving a speech at the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC 2026).
The conference will be co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine and will take place in the city of Gdańsk on 25 and 26 June 2026.

URC 2026 seeks to bolster international support for the country’s reconstruction as well as catalyze investments for Ukrainian businesses.

The event will focus on the sectors most impacted by Russian aggression: energy, critical infrastructure, and logistics.

The conference will place additional emphasis on enhancing Ukraine’s security capabilities, including a new Security and Defense dimension proposed by Poland, which will be introduced as a new feature of URC 2026 in Gdansk. Strengthening Ukraine’s defense is viewed as essential for broader reconstruction and long-term development.

Designed as a high-impact investment facilitation platform, URC will gather international, sovereign and private capital actors to accelerate transactions and anchor long-term economic transformation.

URC 2026 will bring together a diverse group of stakeholders, including heads of state and government, allied governments, national parliament members, international and financial institutions, business leaders, local authorities, and civil society organizations.

Middle East: Humanitarian Needs Remain High – Security Council Briefing | United Nations

Briefing by Indrika Ratwatte, Acting Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator, on the situation in the Middle East.

Ratwatte said, “A better future for Syria remains within reach. After more than a decade of crisis, there is now a genuine opportunity to help Syrians move from survival towards recovery. There are clear signs of progress towards recovery, reconstruction and development. Yet, humanitarian needs remain acute, displacement persists, and conditions for sustainable returns are still uneven across the country. This moment requires ambition anchored in realism: sustained humanitarian action, political will and investment are essential to help Syrians move beyond emergency assistance and rebuild their lives.”

Clean Energy Era Is Now: Build Grids, Scale Renewables Fast – UN Chief Remarks | United Nations

Secretary-General António Guterres said, “The age of clean electrification is here. The question is whether we can build the grids and storage, mobilize the investment, and deliver the infrastructure at the speed and scale required.”

António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, made the appeal in remarks to the inaugural Global Energy Transition and Electrification Summit, held in London alongside London Climate Action Week.

Guterres told the summit the world is facing two interconnected crises: accelerating climate chaos pushing the planet past the 1.5-degree Celsius limit, and the most severe energy upheaval in years, driving up prices and straining economies. Both crises, he said, share one cause – fossil fuels, which still account for around 80 per cent of global energy use.

Three-quarters of the world’s people live in countries dependent on imported fossil fuels, he added, leaving them reliant on energy “they do not control,” at prices “they cannot predict.”

Renewables, however, are now the cheapest, fastest and most scalable source of new electricity in most of the world, the Secretary-General noted. More than 90 per cent of new renewable power projects delivered electricity at a lower cost than fossil fuels last year, he said, and wind and solar are leading all new electricity demand growth worldwide.

Prime Minister’s Question Time, also referred to as PMQs, takes place every Wednesday the House of Commons sits. It gives MPs the chance to put questions to the Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer MP, or a nominated minister.

In most cases, the session starts with a routine ‘open question’ from an MP about the Prime Minister’s engagements. MPs can then ask supplementary questions on any subject, often one of current political significance.

The Leader of the Opposition, Kemi Badenoch MP, asks six questions and the leader of the second largest opposition party asks two. If another minister takes the place of the Prime Minister, opposition parties will usually nominate a shadow minister to ask the questions.
