Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders COP30 Open Letter: Jesper Brodin

Source: World Economic Forum (video statements)

‘A few years ago, we acted on the hypothesis that climate-smart business would be good for business. Today, we know the business case is delivering.’

In this interview, Jesper Brodin, CEO of IKEA and member of the #AllianceOfCEOClimateLeaders, explains why sustainable growth is a business reality. Now, he says, governments must help companies scale up what’s already working.

Representing 130+ major companies with $4 trillion in combined revenues, the Alliance is urging policy-makers to act on climate change. Their message is clear:

Business is already cutting #emissions at scale.
Now we need policies that unlock green markets, speed the transition and build a #NaturePositive, low-emissions economy.
The choices made today will define the pace of #climate action for decades to come.

As the world looks to #COP30, momentum is building for collective action on climate change. The World Economic Forum and its partners are helping scale what already works – from innovative finance models to business-led solutions that deliver sustainable prosperity, for #PeoplePlanetProgress.

Neurotechnology could help billions of people. Has its time come?

Source: World Economic Forum (video statements)

Electronic devices that tap into a human’s nervous system have been around for decades to help paralysed people move and deaf people hear. Now, a new generation of neurotechnology promises to revolutionise treatments for a range of conditions that afflict billions of people.

We look at the benefits and assess the risks with Jen French, a campaigner for access to neurotechnlolgy who has been using a device for 25 years since a snowboarding accident made her quadriplegic. And Tom Oxley, the CEO of neurotech startup Synchron, explains how ‘brain computer interfaces’ are giving paralysed patients the ability to use computers and smart phones.

They also address concerns about things such as data privacy, unequal access to health tech, and device ‘abandonment’.

Chief Economists look ahead to 2026 & Gen Z skill-building with AI | WEF | Top Stories of the Week

Source: World Economic Forum (video statements)

0:14 – What do chief economists expect in 2026? Weak growth and a disrupted new economic reality: In a world shaken by trade disputes, geopolitical fragmentation and the rise of AI, what’s the outlook for the global economy? The answer is mixed, as Philipp Grosskurth, Insight Lead at the World Economic Forum explains.

3:38 – This factory is using AI to help new mothers in the workplace: As the #manufacturing sector faces unprecedented challenges, the need for innovative talent strategies has never been more critical. The World Economic Forum co-created the Frontline Talent of the Future initiative, which aims to identify and share talent innovations helping manufacturing companies such as Haier in China dramatically improve their productivity and stability.

7:13 – 3 in 4 Gen Z-ers use AI to learn new skills: As the first true digital natives, Gen Z are embracing AI in the workplace more than any other generation. They use it to learn new skills, to find new jobs, and to help solve problems at work. But despite this enthusiasm, nearly half of all young adults feel anxious about the impact of AI on their careers – and falling numbers of entry-level jobs suggest their worries are not unfounded, as a new report from Randstad shows.

8:50 – In Delhi, climate change is causing informal workers to lose work. This insurance scheme pays them: Millions of informal workers in #Delhi are forced to down tools when the city’s heat or fumes swell to unbearable levels. Without sick pay or formalised contracts, they have no choice but to go without wages, making it more difficult to meet their family’s basic needs. But a new insurance pilot is paying out whenever temperatures or pollution reach unsafe levels – and insured workers are already seeing the benefits.
