Fisheries Subsidies: Argentina’s acceptance

Argentina deposited its instrument of acceptance of the Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies on 22 July. Ambassador Gustavo Lunazzi presented Argentina’s instrument of acceptance to Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. Just five more acceptances are needed for the Agreement to enter into force.

Fisheries Subsidies: Democratic Republic of the Congo’s acceptance

On 11 July, WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala received the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s instrument of acceptance of the Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies from the Minister for International Trade, Julien Paluku Kahongya. Just seven more acceptances are needed for the Agreement to enter into force.

High-level visit from Liberia

Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala met with Liberia’s Minister of Commerce & Industry, Magdalene E. Dagoseh, at the WTO on 9 July.
She welcomed Liberia’s commitment to trade-led development and expressed strong support for the country’s efforts to boost its economy through investment, value addition, and regional integration.

On 2 July, WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala received Ghana’s instrument of acceptance of the Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies from Ghana’s Ambassador Emmanuel Kwame Asiedu Antwi. Just eight more acceptances are needed for the Agreement to enter into force.

High-level visit from Iceland

Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala met with the President of Iceland, Halla Tómasdóttir, on 1 July at the WTO. They discussed the current uncertainty faced by global trade and the world economy and emphasized the importance of collective efforts to tackle global challenges. Both leaders reiterated the importance of the multilateral trading system and the need for reform and repositioning of the WTO.
