At a special General Council meeting on 15 September, WTO members celebrated the entry into force of the WTO Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies, which commits members to curbing billions of dollars in annual spending on the most harmful subsidies that contribute to the depletion of marine fish stocks.
The Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies is the WTO’s first multilateral agreement with environmental sustainability at its core. It prohibits government support to illegal fishing activities and overexploitation of stocks, contributing to the protection of marine life.

Identifying, locating, and notifying next-of-kin (NOK) is an essential duty of Medicolegal Death Investigators (MDIs). Without NOK the decedent’s affairs will not be settled and the disposition of remains will be delayed. Often NOK are present at the time of death or have been notified by hospital staff or other agencies. However, when NOK is not immediately obvious, it becomes challenging for MDIs to notify them. This webinar guides MDIs through some helpful search methods used to locate and notify NOK.

This workshop explores the impact inconsistent drug analysis reporting has on public health and public trust. The value and implementation of the Global Uniform Analysis and Reporting of Drug-Related Substances (GUARDS) innovative methodology in over 200 instruments across United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) laboratories are presented, as well as the efforts of other labs of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Illinois State Police. Furthermore, new initiatives aimed at increasing the consistency of reported data to the National Forensic Laboratory Information System (NFLIS) are discussed.

What are petition debates?
Petition debates are ‘general’ debates which allow MPs from all parties to discuss the important issues raised by one or more petitions, and put their concerns to Government Ministers.
Petition debates don’t end with a vote to implement the request of a petition. This means that MPs will not vote on the issues raised in the petition at the end of the debate.
The Petitions Committee can only schedule debates on petitions to parliament started on petition.parliament.uk

Misconceptions abound regarding the role of medicolegal death investigation (MDI) professionals, particularly the pervasive belief that they solely work with and for the deceased. This perception often leads to a public reluctance in engaging with medical examiner and coroner (MEC) systems, especially from stakeholders who hold the proverbial purse strings. The reality is, MDI data impacts the living, from assisting grieving families to influencing public health at regional and even national levels. This presentation includes specific examples highlighting the impact of MDI professionals beyond death investigations.

Of recent, forensic toxicology laboratories have been grappling with the emergence of tetrahydrocannabinol isomers within biological specimens. Traditional methodologies are often inadequate in the separation of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol and Δ8-tetrahydrocannabinol, which are the most common isomers identified in forensic testing. This webinar focuses on the validation of a quantitative liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method for the analysis of tetrahydrocannabinol isomers in biological matrices and the analytical challenges associated with these compounds.

This webinar discusses the essential aspects of best practice using liquid chromatography diode array detector (LC-DAD) with optional electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI/MS) for compliance testing of hemp and hemp-derived products. The key topics of this webinar will include: 1) an overview of the most effective LC separation published so far; 2) a description of a simple methanol extraction procedure, consisting of homogenization, ultrasonication/pulverization, centrifugation, filtration, and dilution, to recover cannabinoids from a wide range of samples; 3) how to utilize ultraviolet (UV) detection at multiple wavelengths for optimal sensitivity and improved selectivity; and 4) how to confirm identity of cannabinoids by optional ESI/MS using either high or low-resolution mass spectrometry.
