This session highlights transformative research in forensic DNA analysis and biological evidence examination. Presentations will feature advances in DNA technologies, mixture interpretation, non-traditional biological evidence, genealogy applications, and emerging molecular methods that expand investigative capabilities.
Goals:
• Present innovations in DNA analysis techniques, including rapid DNA, massively parallel sequencing, and low-template DNA
• Demonstrate advances in complex mixture interpretation and probabilistic genotyping
• Showcase research on body fluid identification, microbiome analysis, and phenotypic prediction
• Highlight investigative genetic genealogy research and ethical considerations
Expected Outcomes:
• DNA analysts will learn about emerging technologies and validation considerations
• Laboratory administrators will understand resource implications of new methodologies
• Investigators will gain awareness of expanded DNA capabilities for case resolution
• Enhanced understanding of statistical approaches to DNA evidence interpretation and reporting
Target Audience: DNA analysts, forensic biologists, crime laboratory directors, law enforcement investigators, prosecutors, and defense attorneys.
