Moving troops and military equipment across Europe can currently take weeks or even months.
The European Commission wants to change that by moving towards what Commissioner Andrius Kubilius calls a “military Schengen”: simpler rules, a single European permit and faster procedures to help troops and equipment move across the EU in days when needed.
The aim is to strengthen Europe’s military mobility and readiness by removing barriers that can slow down cross-border movement.
